Endorsements

According to Forbes, McIlroy has sponsorship deals with Nike, TaylorMade, Omega, Optum, GolfPass and Workday, earning him $45-50m.

The Northern Irishman agreed an endorsement contract with Nike in 2013, that was worth between $100-250m.

That contract was extended in 2017 for a further 10 years.

So it will be interesting to see what happens between McIlroy and Nike when his contract runs out in 2027.

Tiger Woods left Nike in 2024 to set up his own apparel and footwear brand, Sun Day Red.

It remains to be seen whether McIlroy will stick with Nike or go down a similar route as Woods.

During the early days of his pro career, McIlroy was also using Nike clubs but the brand discontinued making golf equipment in 2017.

That allowed McIlroy to negotiate an equipment contract with TaylorMade, said to be worth in the region of $100m.

The Northern Irishman extended his contract with TaylorMade in May 2022.

McIlroy has also teamed up with NBC Sports on Golfpass, Bose Sound Systems, Oakley, Santander Bank, and Piguet.

Investments

In 2022, McIlroy co-founded TMRW Sports alongside Woods.

TMRW Sports then launched TGL, which started up in 2025.

GolfMagic has already written everything you needed to know about TGL, the tech-forward, primetime golf league that features the PGA Tour's top talent.

McIlroy and Woods' TGL teams endured a debut season to forget as both Boston Common Golf and Jupiter Links GC missed out on the Playoffs.

In June 2024, TMRW Sports was valued at $500m.

In 2019, he set up Symphony Ventures. The primary purpose of the fund was to invest in emerging companies. One of those is the fitness tech company Whoop.

When McIlroy invested in Whoop, it was worth $1.2bn. The valuation has since grown exponentially.

He's also invested in Future, a one-on-one digital fitness training platform and health companies called LetsGetChecked and Kaia Health.

Troon, the largest golf management company, also has McIlroy's money behind it.

Formula 1

In October 2023, McIlroy joined the backers of F1 team Alpine.

He was part of a $217m strategic investment into the team led by consortium Otro Capital. Joining McIlroy in that move was boxer Anthony Joshua and footballer Trent Alexander-Arnold.

McIlroy said he was open to the idea of investing into his beloved football team, Manchester United, at some point in the future.

"Sports team ownership used to be limited to private equity, and people who had a ton of money," said McIlroy. "But now sports stars are becoming more savvy and using their money in the right way."

PGA Tour bonuses

The PGA Tour introduced the Player Impact Program (PIP) in 2021.

In short, it rewards players with cash for boosting engagement and publicity of the PGA Tour.

It will come as no surprise to you that McIlroy has made some big bucks here.

Woods proved he still moved the needle in the inaugural PIP, scooping $8m.

McIlroy placed third and was given $3.5m.

In 2022, Woods was the top dog again as the PIP was expanded to reward the top 20 players.

Woods was given an almighty $15m whereas McIlroy finished second, earning $12m.

McIlroy was also the beneficiary of another huge wedge of cash after he remained loyal to the PGA Tour amid the schism with LIV Golf

In April 2024, he was reportedly told he was the beneficiary of an equity share in PGA Tour Enterprises worth $50m.

McIlroy finished third in the 2024 PIP race and earned $4.5m.

Woods took the top prize once again, narrowly ahead of World No.1 Scottie Scheffler in second.
