Tiger Woods and his 15-year-old son Charlie were defeated in a sudden death playoff at the 2024 PNC Championship.

Team Woods and German legend Bernhard Langer, playing with his son Jason, finished on 28-under after 36 holes at the hit-and-giggle PGA Tour event.

Charlie produced the highlight of the final round, making a remarkable hole-in-one at the fourth hole with a superbly struck 7-iron from 175 yards

"That was the thrill of a lifetime to be able to have that moment with Charlie," Tiger, 49, said in the immediate aftermath of defeat.

Tiger said the week was all the more special as his 17-year-old daughter Samantha, who inducted him into the hall of fame in 2022, was on the bag.

"For us to have that experience together, I know we didn't win, but it was the fact that we competed. No one really made a mistake out there," he added.

"We had to earn it, and that's what you want to have. Hats off to [the] Langers. They played amazing."

Team Langer and Team Woods proceeded to trade blows all afternoon at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando.

Both teams signed played the final round in 15-under 57.

But Langer inflicted the fatal blow after the two teams couldn't be separated, holing a lengthy eagle putt at the par-5 18th.

The former Masters champion drained a downhill put from 18 feet.

Moments before that putt fell, Charlie lipped out with his eagle effort and Tiger missed low.

Langer has now won the PNC Championship six times and for the second year in a row.

The former Masters champion has won the tournament twice with his eldest son, Stefan, and the rest with Jason.

Tiger and Charlie are still yet to win. They have played the tournament every year since 2020.

The 2024 PNC Championship represented Tiger's first appearance since missing the cut at The Open in July.

"I kind of remembered a few things here and there," he said when asked if the competitive juices were flowing for 2025.

Woods said he'll keep 'doing the little things' each and every day in the gym as he embarks on yet another comeback.

What next for Tiger Woods?

Woods' first appearance of 2025 will be in the inaugural season of the TGL, a tech-infused golf league he founded with Rory McIlroy.

The TGL season is scheduled to commence on 7 January.

But Woods won't play until 27 January when his Jupiter Links quartet face off against McIlroy's Boston Common Golf.

Woods has been reluctant to commit to any kind of playing schedule.

Approximately 12 months ago, Woods declared that he wanted to play at least once a month in 2024.

That failed to materialise, with the golfer only playing one PGA Tour event outside of the major championships.

That event saw the 15-time major champion withdraw early in the second round of the Genesis Invitational because of illness.

Woods made the cut at the 2024 Masters but ultimately finished dead last.

He missed cuts at the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and The Open.

Speaking before the PNC Championship, he said he was 'rusty' and 'nowhere near competitive' for any elite level competition.
