PGA Tour make final decision on location of Tiger Woods' event

The PGA Tour have confirmed Tiger Woods' Genesis Invitational will be played at Torrey Pines. 

The North American circuit made the decision last week to change the location because of the ongoing wildfires that have devastated Los Angeles. 

Woods' TGR Foundation organises and hosts the annual event at Riviera Country Club. 

It was speculated that PGA West, TPC Scottsdale or even Pebble Beach would stage the $20m signature event. 

Torrey Pines was always the frontrunner, according to reports. 

The 2025 edition of the tournament will be played on the South Course over 13-16 February. 

Woods has not confirmed whether he will play yet. 

Torrey Pines is already a regular venue on the Tour and hosts the Farmers Insurance Open. 

It staged the U.S. Open in 2008 which was won by Woods in an 18-hole playoff against Rocco Mediate. 

Jon Rahm also clinched his maiden major title there in 2021. 

"We are grateful to the City of San Diego and Torrey Pines for hosting the 2025 Genesis Invitational, and to everyone who has reached out in support of the tournament," Woods, 49, said. 

"While Riviera remains the home of The Genesis Invitational, we look forward to playing on another championship-caliber golf course this year and using the tournament to support those affected by the fires in the Los Angeles area."

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said it was heart-breaking to witness the devastation caused by the wildfires. 

He added: "Genesis is proud to call Southern California home, with North American headquarters, design studios and several partners located in the area. 

"So many in our community have been impacted by this disaster, and we look forward to using the broad platform of the 2025 Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines to drive meaningful support for relief and recovery."

This year's Genesis Invitational will include a number of Los Angeles-related relief initiatives, with details to be released in due course.
