Jordan Spieth has decided to commit at the final hour to compete in the PGA Tour's Cognizant Classic from 27 February.

Spieth, 31, was not expected to compete in the event - formerly known as the Honda Classic - but he has now decided to add it to his schedule as he builds up his competitive reps ahead of The Masters in April.

The three-time major champion underwent wrist surgery last August and he has only played three times so far in 2025.

Spieth has endured mixed results with a T69 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am, an impressive T4 at the WM Phoenix Open and then a missed cut at Tiger Woods' Genesis Invitational.

He joked on The Smylie Show that he was a "legit 4- to 6-handicap" before competing at Pebble Beach.

The popular PGA Tour star is ranked 67th in the Official World Golf Rankings right now.

Spieth confirmed earlier this week that his wife Annie is expecting their third child

Unexpected news of Spieth adding the Cognizant Classic to his PGA Tour schedule delighted a number of his most ardent fans.

"Let's get it Jordan," said one fan.

"Buzzing, I'm going there as well," tweeted another.

"So sood to see Jordan playing as much as he possibly can with Ryder Cup on the line this September," commented one.

Another joked: "It's cold AF in Texas right now so you can't blame him!"

The Cognizant Classic is played annually at the Champion Course at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The course is regularly considered one of the toughest of the PGA Tour season.

That is largely down to the infamous Bear Trap stretch from holes 15 to 17.

Established in 1972 as the Jackie Gleason's Inverrary Classic, the tournament has undergone multiple name changes with Cognizant becoming the title sponsor in 2023.

The 2025 edition marks the 53rd playing of the event.

Spieth might be the star attraction but he will also be joined by three top-20 players in the world: Russell Henley, Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry.

Luke Clanton, who recently penned a new deal with Nike Golf, is also in the field.

Clanton is playing on a sponsor invite but the rising American star just needs to make the cut to earn his PGA Tour carrd.

Karl Vilips, who became the first player to join Woods' Sun Day Red as a player ambassador this month, is down as the first alternate in the field.

Austin Eckroat is back to defend his title.

Eckroat finished three strokes ahead of Min Woo Lee and Erik van Rooyen in 2024.

Beyond the competition, the Cognizant Classic has a strong philanthropic legacy, having donated over $75m to South Florida charities.
