Tour pro reveals LIV Golf players could be set for shock return (!) to PGA Tour in March
Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard confirms a LIV Golf player told him the PGA Tour could be open to letting LIV players compete in PGA Tour events as early as March.
A number of LIV Golf stars such as Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau could be set for a shock return to PGA Tour action as early as next month.
The latest bombshell was dropped by Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard, who reports an unnamed LIV Golf player told him this week the PGA Tour could be open to letting LIV players return to compete in PGA Tour events as early as The Players Championship from 13-16 March.
However, LIV Golf Singapore is scheduled to take place in the same week and that would leave players with something of a headache.
As it currently stands per player contracts, all LIV Golf players must compete in every tournament on the schedule providing they have a legitimate reason to not compete on a given week.
The Players Championship is the flagship PGA Tour event of the season at famed TPC Sawgrass, and no doubt a number of interested LIV players who still hold membership on the American circuit would very much fancy a trip to Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida instead that week.
The update from Golf Channel's Hoggard falls on the same day the PGA Tour issued a statement following a four-hour meeting in the White House with golf-mad U.S. President Donald Trump.
Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, PGA Tour commissioner and Saudi PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan were also in attendance.
The PGA Tour confirmed "constructive talks" were held and that conversations involved "a discussion about the reunification of golf."
It is understood Trump, the PGA Tour and PIF and all intent on getting a deal signed, agreed and passed as early as March.
The PGA Tour issued the following statement following a meeting at the White House.
"We have just concluded a constructive working session at the White House with President Trump and H.E. Yasir Al-Rumayyan… Thanks to the leadership of President Trump, we have initiated a discussion about the reunification of golf. We are committed to moving as quickly as possible and will share additional details as appropriate… “We share a passion for the game and the importance of reunification. Most importantly, we all want the best players in the world playing together more often and are committed to doing all we can to deliver that outcome for our fans." - PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, Player Director Tiger Woods, & Player Director Adam Scott
If a deal is struck next month and LIV players are unable to compete in The Players Championship then their next opportunity to compete in PGA Tour events will be at the Valspar Championship from 20-23 March.
The Houston Open and Valero Texas Open then follow before the world's best all head to Augusta National to take place in the season's first major at The Masters from 3-6 April.
