Legendary commentator Jim Nantz has revealed multiple PGA Tour winner Davis Love III has recently undergone open-heart surgery. 

Nantz confirmed the news during the final round CBS broadcast of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. 

The broadcaster, 65, said Love had the surgery to replace a 'leaky valve' that was discovered approximately 10 years ago. 

Nantz said Love told him that he went into the operating theatre healthy and 'came out healthier'. 

No other details were provided. 

Love is a legendary figure in golf, celebrated for his long and consistent career on career on Tour that has seen him win 21 times. 

His sole major championship victory arrived at the 1997 PGA Championship. 

Other career achievements include spending more than 450 weeks inside the top 10 of the Official World Golf ranking during the 1990s and early 2000s. 

He has captained the U.S. Ryder Cup team twice. 

Love was the skipper in 2012 when Europe completed a miracle comeback victory at Medinah. 

Four years later, he led Team USA to a 17-11 victory at Valhalla. 

He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2017. 

Over the past few years he has struggled considerably with injuries. 

He served as the tournament host for the 2024 RSM Classic. 

Love played in the Tour event but had to withdraw with a wrist injury. 

He told reporters he had been struggling with the issue for some time and had also had his hip replaced. 

One of his remaining career goals is to surpass Mark Brooks' record for most career starts on the PGA Tour (803). 

Love is currently on 794 after appearances at the Chubb Classic, Cologuard Classic and the Constellation Furyk & Friends.
