Ludvig Aberg completes incredible season with first PGA Tour win at RSM…

Ludvig Aberg has capped off an incredible debut pro season by landing his maiden victory on the PGA Tour at the RSM Classic.

Aberg, 24, fired a sizzling final-round 61 for the second day running to hold off playing partner Mackenzie Hughes (63) by four strokes on a tournament record score and joint 72-hole PGA Tour record score of 29-under par

The talented Swede only turned professional in the summer and is still unbelivably yet to play in a major championship.

Aberg was able to break onto the PGA Tour this season as a result of coming through the PGA Tour's new University Program as the World No.1 amateur.

After only a handful of starts on the DP World Tour, Aberg sealed his maiden title at the Omega European Masters in September.

That was enough to earn him one of Luke Donald's six picks in the 2023 European Ryder Cup team, and he did not let his skipper down.

Aberg performed admirably at Marco Simone by taking two points from a possible four en route to helping Europe regain the Ryder Cup.

Aberg then continued where he left off back on the PGA Tour by posting three consecutive top-15 finishes including a T2 at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Aberg then headed into this week's RSM Classic - the final event of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season - and delivered the goods as tournament favourite to complete a season double in his first year as a professional.

The RSM Classic marked just the 11th PGA Tour start of Aberg's career.

The adidas Golf athlete was at his imperious best throughout the tournament as he made 26 birdies, two eagles and one bogey.

Aberg's sole bogey came after his 66th hole when he failed to get up and down at the par-3 12th.

Hughes did his best to stay with Aberg in the final round as the rest of the challengers fell by the wayside but the Canadian could not close the gap on the Swede.

Aberg made 10 birdies in a stunning final-round 61 to tally a record RSM Classic score of 29-under par.

That eclipsed the previous tournament low score of 22-under par set by Kevin Kisner (2015) and Talor Gooch (2021).
