Jordan Spieth's caddie spotted with different player before $20m PGA Tour event
Jordan Spieth's caddie Michael Greller will be looping for a different PGA Tour player at The Sentry later this week.
Jordan Spieth's caddie Michael Greller will be working for a different player this week.
Spieth is not in the field for the first PGA Tour event of 2025 at Kapalua because he did not meet the qualifying criteria.
He likely wouldn't have been able to play The Sentry anyway given he is still recovering from wrist surgery.
But in any case his long-time looper has got a job for the week.
He has been drafted in to replace Max Homa's caddie Joe Greiner, according to PGA Tour editorial lead Sean Martin.
It has not been revealed why Greiner is unavailable this week.
"Michael Greller has a new bag this week," Martin posted on X on 31 December.
"He's caddying for Max Homa at The Sentry. It's just temporary.
"Greller's boss, Jordan Spieth, isn't in the field and Homa needed a temporary fill-in.
"His long-time caddie, Joe Greiner, is expected to return later in the West Coast swing."
Michael Greller has been Jordan Spieth's caddie since 2011.
Their partnership began when Greller caddied for Spieth during the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in 2011.
After Spieth turned professional in 2012, Greller joined him full-time in 2013.
Since then, the duo has achieved significant success, including winning three major championships and numerous 13 PGA Tour events.
It is not uncommon for caddies to switch bags temporarily over the course of a season.
The Sentry, which carries a $20m purse, begins on 2 January.
Sixty players are in the field for the first signature event of the new campaign.
The field was headlined by runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler but the reigning Masters champion hurt his hand preparing Christmas dinner.
He sustained a puncture wound to his right palm which required surgery to remove shards of glass.
Scheffler's agent says the American, 28, is likely to begin his season at The American Express later in the month.
Viktor Hovland is also a doubt for The Sentry after he fractured his right toe on a bed frame over the holiday period.
Chris Kirk is the defending champion.
