It means the 28-year-old runaway World No.1 will miss The Sentry in Hawaii over 5-9 January and it may force him out of The American Express.
"On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from broken glass," Smith told the official PGA Tour communications team.
"Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.
"He has been told he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express."
Scheffler is coming off a historic year in which he won nine times worldwide.
Highlights included his second Masters title in April, an Olympic gold medal and taking down four signature events.
Scheffler also battled through a neck injury in March to claim his second victory at the coveted Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
Last month, he became the first player since Tiger Woods to be crowned the player of the for the third year in a row.
Scheffler beat Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele to the Jack Nicklaus trophy.
He also starred for Team USA in their dominant victory over the International side at the 2024 Presidents Cup, going 3-2-0 for the week at Royal Montreal in Canada.
Scheffler's 2024 also saw the golfer arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship.
The American was arrested by police officer Bryan Gillis outside Valhalla Golf Club hours before his second round on the morning of 17 May after trying to drive into the club in heavy traffic following a fatal traffic accident.
Scheffler had been charged with second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding traffic signals from an officer.
After reviewing the evidence, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell said Scheffler's actions did not "satisfy the elements of any criminal offence" and "corroborated" Scheffler's assertation that the incident was a "big misunderstanding".
Scheffler later told reporters he did not wish to take any further legal action following the dismissal of the charges.
Viktor Hovland also injured
Approximately 30 minutes after the Scheffler statement was released on 27 December, Viktor Hovland confirmed that he too has suffered a freak injury.
Hovland has fractured his small toe on his right foot after an apparent exchange with a bed frame.
The Norwegian did not reveal if he was going to miss the first event in Hawaii, though.
'Bed frame 1-0 me,' he wrote on Instagram alongside an X-ray of his foot.
That prompted Collin Morikawa to reply: "I’m wrapping myself in some bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii."
