Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will be the team captain of Boston Common Golf in the tech-fused league he created with Tiger Woods

The 34-year-old took to Instagram to make the announcement on 2 November. He also revealed his three TGL teammates.

The TGL format has also been confirmed now. McIlroy's announcement coincides with the news Jon Rahm has backed out of TGL.

Rahm sent speculation into overdrive when any mention of the 2023 Masters champion was scrubbed from the official website.

Hours later it was confirmed the two-time major champion wasn't going to be part of TGL, prompting speculation he may join LIV Golf

McIlroy has confirmed his teammates will be his Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton, 2011 PGA Championship winner Keegan Bradley and 2013 Masters winner Adam Scott

What is TGL?

TGL is run by TMRW Sports, the technology-focused sports company launched by Woods and McIlroy in August 2022.

It will feature six teams of four players, playing each other once in a league format. Only three of the four players will compete in any one event.

Five teams have been announced so far, with names linked to US cities in Atlanta, Boston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

The league has attracted a number of investments from billionaires and sports stars.

The Sofi Center, at Palm Beach State College, will host each event, which will take around two hours to play and be broadcast live in the US with all players wearing microphones.

The venue can hold approximately 1,600 spectators
