Revealed: Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy's destinations after Open nightmares
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were sent home packing early at the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon. Here's what they are getting up to next.
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy both had forgettable experiences at the final men's major of the year at Royal Troon.
The two golfers both missed the cut at The Open after toiling round the Ayrshire Links.
For Woods, 48, it was a story that we have come to expect ever since he made his comeback following his near-fatal car crash three years ago.
The hall of famer rocked up to golf's oldest major telling the media that there's still life in the old dog yet but he struggled in the blustery conditions.
He has refused to give in and vowed to be at next year's Open at Royal Portrush.
Woods also said he doesn't plan to play golf again until December when he tees it up at the annual PGA Tour event he hosts in the Bahamas.
The golfer also confirmed he'll be playing his 'fifth major' - the PNC Championship - with his teenage son Charlie in the same month.
As for McIlroy, he claimed he had put his US Open disaster behind him sooner than expected.
But it was a truly calamitous display whereby the Northern Irishman dropped six shots over a four-hole stretch when he had hoped to make a charge to make the cut.
He later said that the wind got the better of him.
McIlroy said that after a devastating early triple bogey he was already thinking about where he would go on holiday.
His former agent Chubby Chandler has blamed his 'messy life' for what transpired.
What next for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy?
Per @radaratlas2 on X, Woods' private plane was bound for Michigan where he will go and watch his teenage son Charlie compete in his first ever US Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills.
Charlie earned his spot in that field by winning his qualifier on 19 June.
The 15-year-old will be playing agaist 263 other competitors.
It will come as absolutely no surprise to you to learn that his father won the US Junior Amateur multiple times.
During his junior career he won the tournament three times in a row.
As for McIlroy, it looked as though he will be taking some time off to decompress in Portugal.
His plane was bound for Faro after he hot-footed it out of Royal Troon.
McIlroy wasn't too despondent following his surprise Open performance.
He said there is plenty to play for this year, such as attempting to win an Olympic gold medal as well as defending titles on both sides of the Atlantic.
