LPGA Tour gets big financial boost for 2024 schedule
The new LPGA Schedule has dropped, and the total prize money on offer has skyrocketed thanks to big investment from the CME Group.
Following on from the CME Group's recent announcement that next year's Tour Championship will have an $11 million purse, the LPGA has announced its schedule for 2024, and the cash on offer has grown across the board.
The schedule features 33 official events, with the prize fund now reaching a record total of $118 million, with $116.55 million in official money.
The increase sees the prize fund grow a staggering 69% since 2021 when the total prize pot was $70 million.
The considerable leap is primarily due to the increase in prize money for the CME and major championships. As previously mentioned, the Tour Championship now has a whopping $11 million purse, with the winner set to take home $4 million for 1st place.
The five majors have a collective prize fund of $41.7 million, with the U.S. Open boasting the largest purse of $11 million.
The number of regular season events that now have purses of £3 million or higher has also shot up for 2024 to ten. In 2023, there were only four events offering similar-sized payouts, and that number was only one in 2021.
More purse increases are due to be announced in 2024, and players will also be given additional funds in order to aid with travel expenses and guaranteed payouts for 19 of the regular season tournaments, including the majors.
In terms of venues, the schedule will feature three new courses in 2024, including the LPGA Drive on Championship in Bradenton, Florida, the FM Global Championship in Norton, Massachusetts and the Arizona Championship presented by JTBC at a course that is yet to be confirmed.
