Phil Mickelson on 'ridiculous' Dustin Johnson college story? "No way"

Dustin Johnson left Phil Mickelson somewhat speechless after claiming he made a hole-in-one and followed it up with an albatross at the very next hole during his college days. 

Johnson made the claim in a YouTube match that saw the former Masters champion and his brother Austin face off against Mickelson and Grant Horvat. 

It was the first match of Mickelson and Horvat's new series. 

"We were playing at Spring Valley in Columbia, we were on our way to conference championships, we stopped to play a round," Johnson said. 

"And the second hole was a par-5, I holed it with a 6-iron. 

"[At the] third hole, a par-3, it was like 225, 5-iron, it's going right at it. 

"Of course, I just made double eagle so there's no way it's going in. Double eagle, hole-in-one back-to-back."

That is, of course, ridiculous. 

Mickelson looked stunned and replied: "No way. I've never heard of that."

Lefty has made similar audacious claims about his career, such as making 47 hole-in-ones. 

That wasn't the only standout moment from the contest. 

At the beginning of the video, Johnson also revealed the trick he used to get into Mickelson's head at various points over the years. 

"I figured out real quick though," said Johnson. 

"We'd be warming up and we'd get to drivers. We'd be hitting them and Phil's just striping them.

"So I'd make sure I'd leave the range first and get over on the first tee, and I'd just hit it as hard as f------ I could. 

"I'd send one because I knew he just couldn't stand it so he was gonna come out of his shoes. 

"And then he starts hitting them like this [all over the place]. 

Mickelson replied by saying that Johnson plays into his persona of not knowing what's going on. 

"But DJ is a smart, cunning individual," he said. 

"He just plays it off better than anyone else."
