Patrick Reed offers on-brand response to shooting 59 (!) on LIV Golf feeder
LIV Golf star and former Masters champion Patrick Reed carded a sensational 11-under par 59 at the Link Hong Kong Open.
Patrick Reed says it was 'just one of those days' after he fired an astonishing 11-under 59 in the third round of the Link Hong Kong Open on the Asian Tour.
The American told reporters earlier in the week he was not here just to make up the numbers at the penultimate International Series event of the season.
And he proved that and then some, making five birdies in a row from the par-4 first to turn in 6-under 28.
He followed his blistering front nine with another five birdies on the back.
It is only the second time a player has shot a sub-60 round on the Asian Tour.
It means he leads the tournament by three on 18-under after 54 holes, with Rashid Khan and Nitithorn Thippong tied for second.
"Yeah, it was kind on one of those days," the former Masters champion said.
"I got up, I felt a little tight but ready to go and got out here and had probably one of the worst warm-ups ever.
"I looked at my caddie, and he goes, hey, a warm-up is a warm-up, let's go out and just play golf.
"He goes, some of your best rounds have come from a poor warm-up."
He added: "And you know, I stepped up on that first tee and did a great drive, and then from that point on, [I] just hit quality iron shots, leaving myself a lot of really good looks, and was able to make a lot of putts."
The winner of the International Series' order of merit gets a ticket onto the 2025 LIV Golf League.
John Catlin is currently running away at the summit but Ben Campbell is in hot pursuit of the American.
Elsewhere, England's Justin Rose carded a third round of 65 to trail Reed by eight strokes.
Earlier in the week, the Englishman gave his verdict as to whether U.S. Ryder Cup players should be paid.
