Pantomime villain Patrick Reed gets booed by fans at LIV Golf UK

Patrick Reed was grilled by golf fans as he boarded the Party Hole alongside Ian Poulter and Graeme McDowell at LIV Golf UK.

Patrick Reed was met with a 'ring of boos' as he boarded the Party Hole par-3 14th in the final round of LIV Golf UK at JCB Golf & Country Club in Rochester, England.

Reed, 33, has proven something of a pantomime villain in front of European golf fans.

That's because of his past Captain America status in the biennial Ryder Cup contest.

It's also fair to say a number of controversial moments during Reed's pro career have hardly helped his cause.

But to Reed's credit, a player who has honorary membership of the former European Tour, he very much played along with the 'ring of boos' he received on the 14th tee at LIV Golf UK on Sunday.

The 2018 Masters champion was seen smirking to the crowd as the boos rang around the tee box before he fired away.

Reed's playing partner and European Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter, 48, then stepped up to play his tee shot to cheers and a 'there's only one Ian Poulter... walking in a Poulter wonderland' song once he had stuffed his tee shot close to the pin.

Poulter had just double-bogeyed the previous hole at the par-5 13th but the Englishman was seemingly fuelled by the added support and he went on to drain the birdie putt to further cheers from the crowd.

Mirror Sport senior reporter Josh Lees tweeted:

'Patrick Reed met with a ring of boos after making his way onto the party hole at 14. Clearly enjoying it though. Poulter meanwhile greeted with ‘walking in a Poulter wonderland’ after sticking one close.'

Fellow European Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowell, 44, made up the three-ball.

Both Reed and McDowell made par on the 14th.

All three players went on to card rounds of 1-under 70.

Poulter and Reed finished the week in T27 on 3-under par, while McDowell finished a further shot back in T29.

Earlier in the round, Poulter made a 'no-look putt' for birdie on the 9th, the same hole where he created 'The Majesticks Arms' pub at the back of the green.

Jon Rahm won LIV Golf UK, marking his first individual title on the breakaway Saudi golf league.

He was reduced to tears once his victory had been confirmed on the 18th.

The former World No.1 missed a short par putt on the 17th hole but it mattered little when his Legion XIII teammate Tyrrell Hatton missed a short par putt of his own on the 18th green.

Rahm finished the week on 13-under par, one shot clear of Hatton, Cameron Smith and Joaquin Niemann.

The Spaniard has not finished out of the top 10 in all 10 of the LIV Golf events he has completed this year.

Rahm signed to LIV Golf at the end of 2023 in a deal worth a reported $600m
