DP World Tour pro Ewen Ferguson has claimed his group were put on the clock at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic 'for no reason'.

Ferguson played extremely well at the iconic event at Emirates Golf Club and was only a shot behind the lead when a rules official approached his group during the third round.

Said official told Ferguson and his playing partners Jason Scrivener and Daniel Hillier as they were approaching the 15th green that they had fallen behind.

Ferguson trudged off that green with a par but dropped shots at the next two holes before finishing with a birdie to card a 2-over 74.

He started the final round three shots behind returned a card for 3-over 75 to occupy 16th on his own and take home €123,308.60 in prize money

Tyrrell Hatton won the tournament with a clutch putt at the 72nd.

For Ferguson, though, it appears as though being put on the clock affected his momentum.

"They put us on the clock on 15, walking to the 15th green, and then the 16th, honestly for no reason," Ferguson told reporters in Dubai.

"I knew we were going to be waiting on 17, 18, anyway, and I felt like I started rushing our play with a little intensity anyway.

"And all of a sudden I felt like I was too amped up and couldn't calm down and kind of ruined the day a little bit."

Ferguson added that the moment left 'a sour' taste in his mouth.

But he said 'you make your own luck' in this game and he knows he is making progress overall.

Ferguson is now a three-time winner on the DP World Tour.

His most recent victory came in July 2024 at the BMW International Open in Germany.
