"OWGR is broken" golf fans rage over latest PGA Tour / DP World Tour points
Golf fans in disbelief (again) as OWGR rewards lacklustre PGA Tour field with more points over DP World Tour season finale featuring Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm.
Golf fans are up in arms once again over the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) system this week as it has been confirmed more ranking points will be awarded at the PGA Tour's RSM Classic over the DP World Tour's season finale at the DP World Tour Championship.
Both the RSM Classic and DP World Tour Championship draw the curtain on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour seasons.
The winner of the RSM Classic, which features two players in the world's top 20, will receive 11 more points than the winner of the DP World Tour Championship, which features three of the top four players in the world in Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland and seven of the world's top 15.
OWGR will present the winner of the RSM Classic with 38 points as opposed to 27 points for the winner of the DP World Tour Championship.
The field rating of the RSM Classic, which comprises a full field of 156 players, has been weighted at 225. 26944, as opposed to the DP World Tour Championship, which comprises 50 players, at 153.76882.
A very similar scenario played out 12 months ago and eventual DP World Tour Championship winner Rahm blasted the OWGR as a "joke".
European Ryder Cup star Ludvig Aberg is the tournament favourite at the RSM Classic, albeit he ranks 53rd in the world.
Only two players competing in the field are in the world's top 20 - Brian Harman (9) and Cameron Young (18).
The DP World Tour Championship meanwhile features seven of the world's top 15- McIlroy (2), Rahm (3), Hovland (4), Matt Fitzpatrick (8), Tom Kim (11), Tyrrell Hatton (12) and Tommy Fleetwood (15).
We know OWGR is broken - if you claim it is a valid system then you are being political and not honest. https://t.co/ktTIitR0VX

Here's how a number of golf fans reacted:

Unnaceptable system that clearly favors US PGA Tour players.
Absolutely ridiclulous
Time for an overhaul
It's becoming farcical now. DPWT Championship has Rory, Rahm, Viktor, Fitzy, Tom Kim, Tyrrell and Fleetwood inside the top 15. The RSM has Brian Harman...
Absurd. Sad that the DP tour has and continues to be systematically marginalised and downgraded. Keith Pelley's loyalties are clearly not to the DPWT and its players.
What do you make of the OWGR's decision to reward the PGA Tour with more points, despite the DP World Tour season finale having seven of the world's top 15 players in the field?
