Cameron Smith has vowed to make amends at the Australian PGA Championship this week as he reflected on his disastrous performance 12 months ago.

Smith was visibly emotional as he the exited the tournament in Brisbane at the halfway stage last year, despite being the defending champion.

The LIV Golf man missed the cut by as many as nine strokes after an off-colour second round of 7-over 78.

In the immediate aftermath, he described his performance as 's---' and was close to tears.

"I've performed under pressure before and it's not acceptable," he said.

Smith has endured mixed results in 2024. He did not win on the breakaway tour, although he finished runner-up on two occasions.

In the majors, Smith finished in the top-10 at The Masters, missed the cut at The Open, was a non-factor in the PGA Championship and finished in a tie for 32nd at the U.S. Open

He has been handed a 6.10am tee time alongside home favourites Jason Day and Min Woo Lee

In a pre-tournament news conference, Smith reflected on what transpired last year.

"It was completely disappointing to play how I did last year," he said. "It was terrible. It was a terrible feeling.

"I think being a Brisbane boy probably even hurt a little bit more and it’s not very often I get to play in front of a home crowd.

"We have a few events here in Australia, but I like to think this is my home event.

"So that was definitely part of the motivation to get up and get ready for this week."

He added: "I'd love for my first win [in 2024] to come here.

"I would've loved for it to come a little bit earlier.

"I feel like maybe there's a little bit of added pressure with some tournaments running out."

Smith's LIV teammate, Lucas Herbert, is also in the field.

The 2025 Australian PGA Championship marks the first event of the new DP World Tour season.

It is one of five events in the Opening Swing, carrying a $2m purse.
