RUMOUR: "2031 Ryder Cup very likely heading to The Belfry or London Golf Club"
Source tells GolfMagic the 2031 Ryder Cup is more than likely heading to The Belfry or London Golf Club in 10 years time.
GolfMagic has been told by an unnamed source that the 2031 Ryder Cup between Europe and the United States will "very likely" be staged at either The Belfry or London Golf Club in England.
Should the rumour be true, it would mark a record fifth Ryder Cup for The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, or a very first for London Golf Club in Kent.
"The 2031 Ryder Cup will very likely be heading to the The Belfry or London Golf Club," an unnamed source told GolfMagic today.
"A big decision will soon be made by organisers as to whether they award the 2031 Ryder Cup to The Belfry or London Golf Club."
However, off the back of the quote we received from our source this morning, Ryder Cup Europe has since told GolfMagic that multiple countries are still very much involved in the race to host the 2031 Ryder Cup.
A spokesperson for Ryder Cup Europe said: "We have had considerable interest in staging future editions from multiple countries and venues and we will continue these discussions in the months ahead before any announcement is made."
The Belfry's Brabazon Course has already hosted a record four Ryder Cups (1985, 1989, 1993 and 2002) and 17 European Tour events (1979-2020), while London Golf Club has welcomed nine tournaments on the European Tour and European Senior Tour (1995-2019) on both its International and Heritage Courses.
The former venue has played host to some of the most memorable Ryder Cup moments down the years, none bigger than Europe's Sam Torrance holing an 18-footer on the 18th hole in 1985 to wrestle the Ryder Cup out of US hands for the first time in 28 years. And of course, who will ever forget Seve Ballesteros driving the par-4 10th hole that very year.
The 2020 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits was rescheduled for later this September as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, meaning there has been a push back on all future biennial events between United States and Europe.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, Italy, will host the 2023 Ryder Cup, with Bethpage Black in New York next up in 2025.
The Ryder Cup will then head to Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, in 2027, before heading back Stateside to Hazeltine National in Minnesota in 2029.
As is stands, the 2031 Ryder Cup is still being decided, but the 2033 Ryder Cup has been confirmed for The Olympic Club in California.
