MP-R12

Mizuno MP-R12 wedge takes on more specialist wedge look, with its C-Grind sole allowing great short range versatility.

With its generous, rounded teardrop profile - designed as a compliment to the former T11 - the R12 is a throwback to Mizuno's traditional wedge models.

Without a straight leading edge, the MP-R12 is easy to open up for a variety of shot types. I really like the Quad Cut Groove design and Grain Flow Forged construction as it provides a soft buttery feel on full shots from in and around 100 yards.

Short of pinpoint, dart-throwing, stick-it-where-you-want it accuracy, there isn’t much that would have improved the performance of this wedge.

From my perspective it’s one of the better wedges I’ve tested this year. The R-12, tested in 52- and 56-degree, felt extremely easy to control from both grass and sand and its soft feel inspired confidence shot after shot.

Verdict

The C-Grind, with added trailing edge relief, on the 56-degree provided me with consistent feedback on all shot types. I also enjoyed solid ball compression, a nice mid-to-high trajectory and terrific spin data of around 9,500rpm with the 56 - somewhat aided by the nicely weighted True Temper DG Spinner shaft. Great value for less than a £100, too.
