Titleist DT SoLo
Our 2013 review of ten of the latest golf balls under
Brand: Titleist
Ball: DT SoLo
Construction: 2-piece
Dimples/pattern: 392 icosahedral
Cover: Surlyn ionomer
Best price: £15
Summary: Developed with one objective in mind, the 2012 Titleist DT SoLo is designed to offer the softest compression feel possible and deliver the control and distance that are standard with a DT ball.
Appearance: A 392-dimple cover pattern on this two-piece ball includes five dimple sizes to lower ball flight for more roll. A blend of two Surlyn ionomers produces more greenside control. Alignment integrated side stamp aids better putting accuracy. Yellow model, tested, looks the part with black Titleist logo and red number. 4.5
Feel: The latest DT SoLo is the softest ball Titleist has made in this line. Not the most cushioned feeling ball out there but there is noticably less vibration on impact compared to other balls in this test. 8
Performance: Nice and low driver spin and decent distances off the tee but less wedge spin than ideal due to the lower trajectory. The different size dimples make the ball travel on a lower flight so the ball releases better when it hits the fairway. 8
Verdict: You will have a problem working the ball as much as you like and the lower ball trajectory will cause it to release on the greens. The Titleist DT SoLo took away some of its launch angle to get more roll distance. This is a ball for the high capper or golfer that has a problem spinning the ball when they hit their driver. Great value for money at £15. 20.5
