If you are looking for a watch that will help to take your game and course management to the next level, while also needing a device to use in every-day life, this could be the watch for you.
This watch provides you with exact yardages to all sections of the green and it allows you to adjust the pins to wherever it is positioned on the green at your course.
You can keep track of your scores and driving distances and keep tabs on your progress from one round to the next. The Garmin Approach S42 is towards the expensive side but it would be a fantastic addition to your game.
Our equipment editor Alex took the Garmin Approach S42 GPS watch on the course at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate to see what it was like.

THE DETAILS
The watch has interchangeable straps, which are easily adjustable so you can fit the watch perfectly to your hand and ready for use.
Once you are on the course, the watch is easy to configure for you golf game and it also records your strokes gained, which can be compared to other players on the leaderboard using additional purchases such as Shot Scope.
One of the best features of the watch is the green feature, where you can move the pin based on where it is positioned at your course.
If the pin is at the back of the green, you can easily adjust the pin position by double-tapping on the screen and it will give you an accurate yardage. The watch will always give you a distance to the front, middle and back of the green.
Not only can the S42 GPS watch be used for distances to the green, you can also use it on longer holes when you would like to know how far it is to the next bunker or water hazard.
In this way, the watch is a great tool to help you navigate your way around the golf course, so this is useful for golfers of all abilities and experiences.
The watch also has an auto-shot detection feature which tells you how far you have hit your shot, whether it is a driver or an iron shot. This feature allows the watch to detect the ball's progress as soon as it picks up your leading wrist.
GOLFMAGIC VERDICT
As you can see from the video, Alex was playing in tough weather conditions, but the watch remained consistent and the LCD colour screen was still clear to see.
This is where you could set it apart from other watches as it showed its reliability in the wind and the rain. It has a long battery life of over 15 hours, which is roughly four rounds of golf so this documents its durability.
You can use it as accurately as you like with each approach shot to the green. The green feature that allows you to move the pin position is key and this makes the watch very easy to use.
The auto-shot feature is a great touch and is so useful for players who want to know how far they have hit the ball, so they can record their yardages for future use.
It is not only useful for your golf game, but in real life too. You can link your phone to the watch and receive notifications as you play, which I think is an important feature of the product.
