Schauffele was born on 25 October 1993 to Chen Ping-Yi and Stefan 'The Ogre' Schauffele.
His mother was born in Taiwan and his father is of French and German descent. He was born and raised in San Diego, California.
Schauffele's father has been his only swing coach throughout his career but the American employed a putting coach - Derek Uyeda - in 2021.
The Schauffele family have strong ties within sport. His great-grandfathers were football players.
His dad was a decathlete but his career was cut short after he was hit by a drunk-driver in a head-on collision which ended his dreams of being an Olympic athlete.
Schauffele turned professional in June 2015 and earned his Web.Com Tour card (now the Korn Ferry Tour) through qualifying.

Schauffele has also represented the U.S. at the 2019 and 2022 Presidents Cup, as well as the 2020 and 2023 Ryder Cup.
He is married to Maya Schauffele. The couple have been together since 2014. They met in university.
The couple tied the knot in 2021 in Las Vegas, where they now reside.
