Full Biography
Xander Schauffele is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.
Schauffele was born on 25 October 1993 to Chen Ping-Yi and Stefan 'The Ogre' Schauffele.
His mother was born in Taiwan and his father is of French and German descent. He was born and raised in San Diego, California.
Schauffele's father has been his only swing coach throughout his career but the American employed a putting coach - Derek Uyeda - in 2021.
The Schauffele family have strong ties within sport. His great-grandfathers were football players.
His dad was a decathlete but his career was cut short after he was hit by a drunk-driver in a head-on collision which ended his dreams of being an Olympic athlete.
Early career
Schauffele turned professional in June 2015 and earned his Web.Com Tour card (now the Korn Ferry Tour) through qualifying.
His first full season on the Web.Com tour saw him play 23 events.
He narrowly missed out on a full PGA Tour card in the regular season but gained it through the finals.
He finished 15th on the money list.
Schauffele made his PGA Tour debut at the CareerBuilder Challenge in La Quinta, California.
His first victory on the circuit came at the Greenbrier Classic in 2016-17.
He also won the Tour Championship at East Lake as a rookie.
Schauffele's exploits in 2016-2017 earned him the honour of being named the PGA Tour's rookie of the year.
Schauffele has won nine times on the PGA Tour, highlighted by a maiden major title at the 2024 US PGA Championship at Valhalla.
In July 2024, Schauffele took his tally of major titles to two after he clinched the Open Championship at Royal Troon.
One of Schauffele's other standout achievements came in the form of winning a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, beating Slovakia's Rory Sabbatini by one stroke.
Schauffele has also represented the U.S. at the 2019 and 2022 Presidents Cup, as well as the 2020 and 2023 Ryder Cup.
Personal life
He is married to Maya Schauffele. The couple have been together since 2014. They met in university.
The couple tied the knot in 2021 in Las Vegas, where they now reside.
As of July 2024, Schauffele's career earnings on the PGA Tour total $54,777,483.
Outside of golf he is good friends with fellow pro golfer Patrick Cantlay.
Schauffele is also interested in food and wine.
He is a Callaway staff player. His caddie is Austin Kaiser.
