WATCH: Rory McIlroy makes first ever (?!) PGA Tour ace after 3,253 attempts!
Rory McIlroy made his first ever (!) hole-in-one on the PGA Tour during the first round of the 2023 Travelers Championship.
Rory McIlroy was serenaded with chants of 'Rory' after making his first ever PGA Tour ace.
The moment for the 34-year-old Irishman arrived during the first round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
It's a designated event, meaning that there is a $20m prize purse and a field stacked with talent.
McIlroy was playing his first round alongside Tom Kim and Viktor Hovland.
And the glorious ace arrived on No. 8, a 214-yard par-3 with water guarding the green. McIlroy's weapon of choice? A 5-iron.
He launched his TP5x high up into the stratosphere. It bounced once, then rolled perfectly into the centre of the cup. Cue scenes.
McIlroy appeared absolutely delighted and took the time to high five Kim, Hovland and embrace his caddie Harry Diamond.

It simply is remarkable that McIlroy had never made an ace during his PGA Tour career until this moment.
He has had one on the DP World Tour, though, which happened way back in 2015 at the HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship.

McIlroy is never too far away from the headlines in men's professional golf.
Last week he tasted major championship disappointment once again when he finished runner-up to Wyndham Clark at the US Open.
"I'd go through 100 more Sundays like this to win another major," a distraught McIlroy later said.
Although this ace will have cheered him up somewhat, there is no doubt that he would trade it to add another major to his tally of four.
He'll have another chance soon at the 151st Open Championship. Although this Ryder Cup legend doesn't believe he'll get the job done.
