Report: Rory McIlroy made an interesting gesture to Sergio Garcia at US Open
Rory McIlroy is now reportedly willing to bury the hatchet with Sergio Garcia after the duo fell out about the LIV Golf League.
Rory McIlroy was reportedly sent a text by Sergio Garcia before the US Open, asking to bury the hatchet over their LIV Golf-associated fallout.
McIlroy, 34, was very good friends with the 2017 Masters champion. So much so, he even was a groomsman at the Spaniard's wedding.
But the pair appeared to have a bust-up after McIlroy was accused by Garcia of lacking in maturity in his fierce, vocal opposition to the rival league.

"He's got the problem," Garcia said when all hell was breaking loose in the world of men's professional golf.
So the story goes, when Garcia told McIlroy the reason he was deciding to join LIV Golf was 'so we can get paid what we deserve', the Ulsterman's response was to simply laugh out loud and say: "We're golfers. We don't deserve to be paid anything."
Yeah, it's all been pretty nasty and McIlroy was one of the first to call on European LIV players to be excluded from the Ryder Cup.
It was also revealed that Garcia had sent an expletive-laden text rant to McIlroy.
Speaking about that previously, McIlroy revealed that Garcia had sent him a message telling him to 'shut up' about LIV. McIlroy said he was offended and sent him back a 'few daggers' of his own.
Garcia went on to say that what happened with McIlroy was 'very sad', adding:
McIlroy and Garcia were both in the field at the 2023 US Open. It was a familiar tale of woe for McIlroy as he came up short once again.
According to TenGolf, there was eye contact between the pair and McIlroy gestured that he would call Garcia. The publication also reported Garcia had sent McIlroy a message before the major.
It would come as no surprise that tensions have now cooled down, given the PGA Tour have struck a deal with the Saudi backers of LIV Golf.

McIlroy was upset when this bombshell news was announced before the third major of the year and anointed himself the tour's 'sacrificial lamb' given how hard he has rallied against LIV.
"I still hate LIV," McIlroy said before revealing he had just to accept Saudi Arabia were going to invest in golf no matter what.
The shock proposal is now being scrutinised by US lawmakers. Greg Norman, PGA Tour chief Jay Monahan and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan have been invited to testify at a US Senate hearing.
