Do you ever watch a PGA Tour player strike a ball with their irons and just dream of flushing yours in a similar fashion? Well PGA professional Danny Maude has a very simple golf drill that will seriously help your ball striking with your irons.
In the video below, Danny explains a common error made by amateur golfers when it comes to irons and shows you one of his most simple drills yet that will help you hit more accurate iron shots, straight out the middle of the club face. Danny's Key Tips for striking your irons pure:
A position I see a lot from amateur golfers is when the wrists and hands have moved the club head away. This throws the mass way behind the golfer and opens the face. We can fix this common issue by using an alignment stick...
Use an alignment stick to extend the length of your golf club, start by resting it on your lead side. Move the club away from the golf ball keeping it connected up until your hands reach your trail thigh. Once you get to this position, the alignment stick should still be connected to your side.
You then want to cock the wrists and point the alignment stick just inside or at ball line, then pause your swing.
Then just swing through the shot into a short finish making sure the stick avoids the lead side. Most golfers will feel the stick hit their side at first. This is great feedback, it shows you are flicking your wrists.
