Players 2022: "They should STOP, the 17th is unplayable!"
The first four players to step up to the iconic 17th at TPC Sawgrass at The Players on Saturday found the water in terrible conditions.
The 2022 Players Championship has been dogged by horrendous weather conditions.
So much so, by the time we reached Saturday afternoon at approximately 11am there were some players who were yet to complete 18 holes.
There was so much rain that even when it stopped the maintenence staff needed several hours to squeegee away the water.
When the competitors did get out and back at it, the rain was replaced with the wind. It was absolutely howling.
Well...if that wasn't a recipe for absolute carnage then we don't know what was. The iconic 17th at TPC Sawgrass was brutal.
So much so, the first four players to step up to it on Saturday at lunch time found the water.
And it wasn't as if the players who first stepped up to the 137-yard hole lacked experience in brutal conditions.
Scottie Scheffler stepped up first. Splash. He was followed by Xander Schauffele. Also wet. Brooks Koepka? Yep. Wet.
Oh, and what about Collin Morikawa? In the drink. What exactly is a good score in these conditions? The mind boggles.
Check out the video below. Schauffele wasn't even close. This is simply box office stuff at The Players.
When Rory McIlroy stepped up he managed to find the green, but he too let one slip and made bogey.
Absolute scenes.

First group on the tee today at 17 is Koepka, Scheffler and Schauffele. All three in the water. Here. We. Go. pic.twitter.com/wy9ocVfC0i

Practice green is usually a bunch of guys draining straight 4 footers, all focused on themselves. Today they’re missing everything and giving each other that look/smile you give when a 30 mph gust comes up and you’re like, “are we really about to play in this?!”
