PGA Tour announces MASSIVE changes to developmental tours
The PGA Tour has announced some massive changes to its development Tours for 2024.
The PGA Tour has unveiled their news plans to combine their developmental tours into one for 2024 called the PGA Tour Americas.
The PGA Tour announced two of its main developmental tours beneath the Korn Ferry Tour, the PGA Tour Canada and the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, will come together next year to form one tour: the PGA Tour Americas.
Both the PGA Tour Canada and PGA Tour Latinoamerica are stationed below the Korn Ferry Tour, which is the circuit directly below the PGA Tour.
At the end of every season, a handful from each tour earn cards for the following Korn Ferry Tour season, and as of this season, the top 30 on the Korn Ferry Tour's regular season points list automatically earn PGA Tour cards for the following year.
Former PGA Tour Canada players who've used the development tour as a pathway on their journey to the PGA Tour include Mackenzie Hughes, Joel Dahmen, and Tony Finau.
The newly combined Tour will have 16 events from February to September, played across Latin America, Canada and the United States.
The top 10 players on the points list at the end of the season will earn Korn Ferry Tour cards for the following year.
Alex Baldwin, who oversees PGA Tour Americas, the Korn Ferry Tour, PGA Tour Q-School, and PGA Tour University was quoted in the release saying:
He added:
The newly-formed tour will begin its season in Latin America from February to May.
The top 60 players from the Latin American swing will continue onto the North American portion of the season from June through to September.
In addition to the top 10 who earn Korn Ferry Tour cards, five conditional Korn Ferry Tour cards will also be up for grabs for the top two during the Latin American swing and the top three from the North American portion, if those players do not finish in the season's top 10.
The top 10, and those five additional players, will also be exempt through to the final stage of the PGA Tour Q-School. Nos. 11-25 from the season-long points list, Nos. 3-10 from the Latin American swing, and Nos. 4-10 from the North American swing will also be exempt to the second stage of the PGA Tour Q-School.
