Brooks Koepka was nearly struck by Jordan Spieth's golf ball on day one of the Northern Trust, the first event of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs, according to a Golf Digest report on Thursday.

Golf Digest's Alex Myers who was following the action on the fairways as it happened at Liberty National, the near-miss happened when Koepka was playing the 1st hole while Spieth was teeing off on the 18th.

"Absolute bedlam here on 18 as Brooks Koepka, playing the first hole and way left, nearly gets plunked by Jordan Spieth’s way left tee shot on 18," tweeted Myers.

Golf Digest contributor Christopher Powers tweeted: "Jordan Spieth almost just killed Brooks Koepka with his tee shot on 18 (Brooks was way left on 1). Safe to assume Jordy is on team Bryson."

Myers also revealed how he himself was nearly struck by a golf ball while watching Spieth on the par-5 6th hole, as Cameron Smith's ball from the 8th hole whistled past his ear.

Smith went on to shoot a round of 2-under 69, one better than Koepka (70) and three better than Spieth (72).

Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas shot lights out on Thursday with spectacular rounds of 8-under 63 to set the early pace.
