"It's not about money, it's about BETTER": Premier Golf League details explained
The Premier Golf League has released the full details and structure of its proposal to change professional golf forever.
The Premier Golf League has sent an open letter to the world of golf, revealing every detail and aspect of their proposal.
The league will take on two elements which are the Player Championship and the Team Championship. These formats will run parallel and there will be promotion and relegation.
In the Player Championship, it will be traditional stoke play and each event will have a purse of $20 million, with the winner receiving $4 million in each of the 17 weeks.
In the Team championship, there will be 12 teams of four players and only two scores count per team and per day. There will be a $1 million team bonus each week for 17 weeks, followed by a season finale and playoffs in the extra 18th week.

For a normal WGC event on the PGA Tour, the winner receives $1,820,000 but in the Premier Golf League, they would receive $4 million. The full purse breakdown and more details of the weekly schedule can be found here: premiergolfleague.com.
The first season is scheduled to begin in January 2023 and each season will run for eight months with a four-month break.

Out of the 18 events per season, 12 will be staged across the US and six will be in locations that are yet to be confirmed. The idea is to keep the East Coast and West Coast swings and then incorporate mini-Asian and European swings.
"The Premier Golf League has been a labour of love for six years," reads the letter.
"We haven't entered into this lightly, we're unabashed golf fans with backgrounds in golf media sales and buying, broadcasting, sports production, golf tournament operations, golf rules officiating, team operations, digital operations and the law.
"We're doing this because we believe professional golf can and should be better for the fans, players and golf's wider community. Our sole objective is to get more people watching and playing the game we love. For decades to come.
"Because for us it's not about the money. It's just about better."
The PGL has made clear that the money raised on this schedule will be pumped back into the golf community and the PGL is a fully separate organisation from the Saudi-backed Super Golf League.
