Each member of Wimbledon Park GC will receive £80,000 as Wimbledon's All England Tennis Club triples the size of its property.
Wimbledon's All England Tennis Club has purchased the golf course next door to it in order to expand its iconic tennis club.
Members of Wimbledon Park Golf Club voted to sell its club and 18-hole golf course to the All England Tennis Club.
They required 75% of their membership to vote in favour of the sale, and the end result was 82%. According to the Mirror, the total sale of the golf club has reached a staggering £64 million.
It is being reported that every long-standing member of the golf club will take a home a windfall of about £80,000.
Wimbledon's All England Tennis Club will now triple the size of its property, allowing it to hold all its qualifying matches for Wimbledon on the site.
Phil Brook, the chairman of the All England Tennis Club, told ESPN, “”In many ways, it will be business as usual for the Wimbledon Park Golf Course during the next couple of years, but the AELTC will use this time to give careful consideration to our next steps.”
The course will continue to operate until December 1, 2021.
A number of high-profile golfers typically attend the annual Wimbledon Tennis Championships each summer, none bigger than Tiger Woods.
