Webb Simpson leads by seven at The Players
Webb Simpson leaves rivals trailing in his wake as he puts one hand on Players Championship.
Webb Simpson carded a third-round 68 to move seven strokes clear at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, on a day when Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth posted the lowest rounds of the day.
Simpson, 32, progressed to 19-under par and sits seven ahead of New Zealand's Danny Lee, with world number one Dustin Johnson back in third on 10-under.
The 2012 US Open champion went out in 34 shots with three birdies and a bogey, before doing the same on the back nine with the highlights being a holed bunker shot for eagle at the par-5 11th and sublime 9-iron to three-feet for birdie at the island green par-3 17th.
Lee posted a 70 to take solo second on 12-under, while Johnson hit a 69 to move up to third.
Jason Day sits in a five-way tie for fourth on 9-under, while Woods and Spieth moved to 8-under following best-of-the-day rounds of 7-under 65.
Woods got off to a blistering hot start on Saturday, playing the first 12 holes in 8-under, but he bogeyed the 14th and parred into the clubhouse.
"Eventually I was going to put all the pieces together," said Woods. "Today, for the most part, I did that."
