Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy OUT of Tournament of Champions
Woods and McIlroy confirm they will not participate in Hawaii's 2020 curtain raiser
Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka are just three of golf's biggest names to confirm they will not be teeing it up in the PGA Tour's first event of the calendar year at this week's Sentry Tournament of Champions.
The tournament is an invite-only event for all players that won on the PGA Tour in 2018 and 2019, and it is expected that 34 players will align for the first round on Thursday.
Other big names to bypass the tournament include Justin Rose, Phil Mickelson and Open champion Shane Lowry.
Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and defending champion Xander Schauffele, however, have all touched down in Hawaii this week and will be looking to get their 2020 off to a flyer.
Woods, who celebrates his 44th birthday today, was eligible for this event having won the 2018 Masters.
But the 15-time major champion decided against competing and is instead expected to make his first start of the year at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines from January 23 to 26.
Woods has chosen not to play the Kapalua event since 2005, despite having won the event twice.
