Rory McIlroy turned into the naughty little boy at the back of the classroom while in the scorer's hut on the final day of the European Masters.

McIlroy had finished marking his card alongside his playing partners, and then played up to the live television pictures by throwing a tiny bit of paper at the camera.

And as you can see from the video below, the European Tour scorer was not particularly amused...

McIlroy recovered from a slow start to the final round by playing the final seven holes in 5-under par to reach the magic 14-under total, but he would go on to lose a five-man playoff as Sweden's Sebastian Soderling went on to clinch his maiden European Tour title.

With both Lorenzo Gagli and Andres Romero out the running on the first extra hole, Soderling drained his 12-footer for birdie to heap the pressure on McIlroy and Kalle Samooja who stood over eight and five-foot birdie putts respectively.

The Northern Irishman narrowly missed his to the left and Sammoja missed to the right to hand Soderling the title.

Just seven days after winning his second career FedEx Cup on the PGA Tour, McIlroy cited fatigue and mental mistakes for costing himself a chance at a first European Masters victory.

"Too many mistakes," said McIlroy, as he assessed his performance for the week. "I think I made 13 bogeys during the week. I made enough birdies, but I just didn't have it over the weekend.

McIlroy was bidding to return to World No.1 in September but required wins at both the European Masters and upcoming BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
