Rory McIlroy pips Tiger Woods to new record
Rory McIlroy shocked to break new record: 'The first thing I've beaten Tiger at'.
Rory McIlroy's year just keeps getting better and better. After a phenomenal season that was capped off at the Tour Championship, winning the FedEx Cup for the second time in his career, McIlroy went on to beat Brooks Koepka to the PGA Player of the Year award. It didn't take long for McIlroy to get the new PGA Tour season up-and-running, winning the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai.
The Northern Irishman has had an impeccable career so far and when the day comes that McIlroy wins the Masters, his career will go down as one of the greatest in the history of the sport.
McIlroy has 18 PGA Tour victories to his name (including four majors), nine wins on the European Tour and two FedEx Cups and he currently sits in 8th position on the PGA Tour's all-time earners list, making over $51 million in tournament earnings.

To McIlroy's surprise, he has now added another achievement to his impressive career. A tweet sent out by @VC606 ('Nosferatu'), revealed that McIlroy has spent 500 weeks inside the top 10 in the world rankings, at the age of 30 and a half, making him the youngest player to ever do so.
Woods achieved the same accomplishment four months older than McIlroy. When McIlroy saw the tweet for himself, he posted it to his Instagram story, with three exploding head emojis, showing just how shocked he was at the news.

“The first (and maybe last) thing I’ve ever beaten Tiger at,” McIlroy captioned his story.
McIlroy has made his intentions over the coming months very clear, in the sense that he wants to close the gap between himself and world No.1 Koepka, as he looks to regain his throne at the top of the eworld rankings, a position he hasn't held since 2015.
