Rory McIlroy announced the birth of his daughter a day before the start of the Tour Championship.
Rory McIlroy announced the birth of his first child on Thursday, one day before the start of the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake.
The Northern Irishman became a father for the very first time after his wife Erica gave birth to a little girl, whom the couple have named Poppy Kennedy McIlroy.
"Poppy Kennedy McIlroy, born August 31st, 12:15pm. She is the absolute love of our lives. Mother and baby are doing great. Massive thank you to all the staff at Jupiter Medical Center and Dr Sasha Melendy for their amazing care," said the World No.4 on social media.
During last week's BMW Championship, McIlroy told the media that he had "been waiting for the call" and made it clear that he would pull out of the Tour Championship if he received that call during the tournament.
"Definitely, just depending on what happens," he said when asked about the possibility of missing the last event of the season, one that he was victorious in last year. "I'm going to play in many more Tour Championships and it's only going to be the birth of your first child once. That trumps anything else."
McIlroy, who has been in a poor run of form since returning to the PGA Tour after it was put on hold for 91 days, will begin the Tour Championship at 3-under par, seven strokes behind FedExCup leader Dustin Johnson.
