Phil Mickelson OUT of World's Top 50 for the first time in 26 years...
Mickelson falls out of top 50, but insists "I'll be back"
Phil Mickelson's incredible run of being in the top 50 players of the Official World Golf Ranking has finally come to an end today following the latest update from the weekend's golf tournaments on Tour.
Mickelson, 49, has found himself in the World's Top 50 ever since finishing runner-up in the Casio World Open in Japan on November 23, 1993.
But following his tie for 28th at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China on Sunday, the five-time major champion slipped one place to 51st in the world rankings when it was updated on Monday morning as Shugo Imahira finished solo second in the Mynavi ABC Championship in Japan.
"It was a good run," said Mickelson. "But I'll be back."
Mickelson won his 44th career PGA Tour title at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier this year in February, but since that victory has made just one top-20 finish in his last 20 starts around the world.
Lefty confessed last week that he doesn't even deserve a pick in Tiger Woods' US Presidents Cup side to face Ernie Els' International side this December.
Mickelson has represented his country in every Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup since 1994 (24 team competitions), an unbelievable run that sadly will come to an end when Woods makes his four captain's picks today.
"So I’ve played terribly this year, and even if I were to win this week, I do not deserve or warrant a pick for the Presidents Cup," Mickelson said prior to last week's WGC-HSBC Champions in China.
"There’s much better players who have played better throughout the year, and so I won’t be on the team this year. But I intend to come back strong, play well and get back on the Ryder Cup team next year."
