Rory McIlroy may have missed the cut for the second consecutive year at the US Open, but he is leaving with his head held high on social media after responding perfectly to Steve Elkington's dig on Twitter.
After witnessing McIlroy miss the cut at Erin Hills, Elkington wrote...

Elkington tried to respond by claiming Jack Nicklaus never discussed his earnings, but at that point, Elk was on the canvas and the judge had called for the bell, raising Rory's hand as victor.

McIlroy birdied his final hole on Friday for a 1-under 71 and 5-over total, but it was not enough to make the cut mark which fell at 1-over - the lowest ever cut line in US Open history by two shots.
Dustin Johnson (4-over) and Jason Day (10-over) also missed the cut, marking the first time all three of the world's top three players have missed a cut in a major championship since the rankings began in 1986.
