Odyssey reveals putter with face that swivels!

Callaway Golf has introduced a putter that you can fine tune to suit putting surface conditions by swivelling the face.

The Odyssey Flip-face with alternative inserts is the latest to meet the increasing demand for adjustable equipment that dials in a golfer's game.

Available in three models, the flatstick features an innovative, patented system which customises it by using a special tool that doubles as a divot and pitchmark repairer. It enables the golfer to unscrew a single component in the self-contained putter head and rotate the putter face 180 degrees.

This allows a choice between two inserts - the new, firmer Metal-X or the popular, softer White Ice. The two-sided putter face enables players to adjust their Odyssey putter for feel, speed and roll characteristics based on course and weather conditions.

However, Rules of Golf only allow choices to be made during social games (if you dare!) and ahead of a competitive round.

Expect to pay £279 when the putter is released later this month.

“Engineering the Flip Face Putter to be a self-contained and conforming piece of adjustable equipment while also performing to the standards of the world’s best players was not a simple task,” said Odyssey Golf's principal designer Austie Rollinson.

“But we love a daunting challenge at Odyssey, and we think the Flip Face offers golfers a considerable advantage with a simple adjustment made before the round begins.”

Featuring a satin chrome finish, the Flip Face Putter will be available as a rounded, heel-toe-weighted blade putter with crank-neck hosel and full-shaft offset (No.1), a rounded mallet putter with a single bend shaft and full-shaft offset (No.5) or as a toe-weighted, heel-shafted, flanged blade putter with a long hosel and half-shaft offset (No.9).

PGA Tour pro Stuart Appleby, has put the No.5 model in play and says: “I really like the look of the Flip Face. It reminds me of those license plates on James Bond’s car that used to flip around.

“I love the firm feel of the Metal-X insert but it’s nice having the option to switch to the White Ice insert if I want. It's a cool design.”

Each putter comes standard with a Lamkin 3GEN pistol grip which encourages light pressur and reduces vibration without dulling the feel of the putt. ?

Flippin' 'eck! What will they think of next? Yet another tricky decision to make before you play but at least you do get a two-for-one deal for your investment. Tell us your views on the forum...
