Brendan Lawlor commits long-term future to Modest! Golf
Irishman signs new deal with Niall Horan's Modest! Golf Management company...
Modest! Golf Management are delighted to confirm that one of the world’s best disability golfers, Brendan Lawlor has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the company.
The talented Irishman signed his first professional contract with Modest! in 2019, joining an impressive stable of stars that includes World No.7 Tyrrell Hatton, two-time European Tour winner Guido Migliozzi and Lawlor’s LPGA Tour compatriot, Leona Maguire.
Lawlor has made it his mission to put disability golf on the map in recent years, making history by becoming the first player with a disability to compete on the European Tour at the ISPS Handa UK Championship in 2020. It’s one in a number of ground-breaking milestones in the drive for greater inclusivity in golf with the European Tour joining forces with the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA) in their bid to create more opportunities.
The European Tour has plans for a full European Disability Tour by 2022 and when that work comes to fruition, Lawlor will be a force to be reckoned with on the fairways, just as he currently is off them.
“Brendan truly reflects everything and more about what Modest! Golf stands for,” says company Director, Niall Horan. “Brendan’s hard-working attitude is infectious and he’s living proof that no barrier is too great when it comes to sport. Not only is he a brilliant golfer but he’s a great guy who we love working with and we’re excited to support him on his journey.”
And what a journey it’s been. Lawlor was born with Ellis van-Creveld Syndrome, a rare bone growth disorder that leads to shorter limbs. For years he competed at the top level of amateur able-bodied, and disability golf, but he’s now ready to make the transition to the professional ranks with the promise of greater playing opportunities in the coming years.
“I am so grateful to Modest! Golf for all they have done for me,” said the 23-year old. “They have helped change my life by allowing me to play golf full-time while traveling the world and promoting a message that I am so passionate about. There is a need for greater inclusivity in the game but the message is getting out there that sport is for everyone and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
As Lawlor embarks on his professional career, he will also be supported by key sponsors; adidas golf, TaylorMade Golf, ISPS Handa, American Golf, Synergy Investments and Kinetica Sports. Brendan is also an ambassador for Carton House Golf Course in Ireland.
