Tiger Woods' ball from historic 1997 Masters fetches mind-boggling sum!
A golf ball Tiger Woods used in his 1997 Masters win at Augusta National was sold in an auction for a mind-boggling sum.
A golf ball Tiger Woods gave to a nine-year-old boy during the 1997 Masters has fetched a mind-boggling $64,000.
The Titleist golf ball was handed to nine-year-old Julian Nexsen after Woods bogeyed the fifth hole of his final round.
Woods went on to win his maiden Masters at the tender age of 21. "There it is, a win for the ages!," Jim Nantz exclaimed.
Nexsen put the ball up for auction on 27 March at a starting bid of $500. After 53 bids, Woods' ball went for $64,124 on 8 April.
A day later Woods withdrew from the 2023 Masters after fighting once again to make to the weekend. Golf fans have urged the big cat to quit.
By making the cut, it marked another milestone in the illustrious career of the legendary golfer.
Woods extended his Masters cut streak to a record-tying 23 straight. Gary Player and Fred Couples are the other two players who have this record.
The listing on Golden Age Auctions claimed they believe it to be likely the only confirmed ball from Woods' final round.
A description of the ball stated:
Woods' win as a 21-year-old back in 1997 made him the youngest winner in Masters history.
He also broke the 72-hole tournament record by one stroke, finishing with a 18-under 270.
He beat the field by an incredible 12 strokes.
Now 47-years-old, Woods has won five Masters Tournaments in total and 10 additional major championships.
He most recently won The Masters back in 2019 in a monumental comeback following countless surgeries on his back.
His other Masters wins came in 2001, 2002, and 2005.
