REVEALED: CBS announces astronomical viewing figures for 2023 Masters!
The final round viewing figures from the 2023 Masters where Jon Rahm triumphed have been revealed by CBS.
It's a moment we all look forward to every single year: watching Sunday Masters coverage.
Jon Rahm triumphed at Augusta National, claiming his second major championship after holding off LIV Golf's Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka.
Chatter beforehand teased the tradition unlike any other as potentially one of the best Masters ever given the LIV spice.
Oh, and there the inevitable buzz that Tiger Woods creates.
The numbers are now in from CBS and they have announced that 16.251m people tuned in to watch on Sunday.
Play was suspended early on Saturday evening due to stormy conditions, the third and final round was completed all in one day.
A large chunk of the viewership came in the later afternoon, which averaged 12m as Rahm began to take control of the major.
That figure is up 19 per cent from last year's broadcast. It was also the most-watched golf telecast of any network in the last five years.
The peak viewership came at 7pm ET when Rahm officially earned the green jacket.
CBS also said their streaming service, Paramount+, hit record viewership numbers during the final round.
You'd expect that viewing figures would always be astronomically high for the major, but that is not always the case.
Viewing figures took a massive hit at the 2020 Masters when Dustin Johnson won at Augusta.
Perhaps that was caused by the lack of atmosphere as it was without patrons because of the pandemic as well as the fact the tournament took place in November instead of April.
The final round audience was an astronomically bad 5.6m when Johnson triumphed
When Hideki Matsuyama won a year later, figures jumped to 9.5m for the final round, though that wasn't as high as when Woods claimed his fifth green jacket in 2019, with 10.8m tuning in the Sunday to watch the big cat's remarkable win.
Around 10.1m watched Scottie Scheffler win in 2022.
