AIG Women's Open - Everything you need to know for week at Muirfield
Once a men-only golf club until 2017, Muirfield is ready to host the AIG Women's Open which will see a stellar field tee it up at the East Lothian links.
Much like in the men's game, the AIG Women's Open is the final major championship of the year and it will be hosted by Muirfield in East Lothian.
Until 2017, Muirfield was a men-only club and it was taken from the men's Open Championship rota. After the initial ballot failed to find the two-thirds majority needed to allow women's members, Muirfield overturned this in a second ballot.
The famous links has hosted The Open Championship on 16 occasions, most recently in 2013 when Phil Mickelson won his first and only Claret Jug and his fifth major title.
Muirfield has been blessed with a huge depth of talent at the AIG Women's Open in 2022. 11 past champions are playing this week such as Georgia Hall, Laura Davies and Catriona Matthew.
18 players in the top 20 in the world are competing and 14 of these players already have major trophies on their record. Also, clear pathways have been forged by The R&A to allow a host of top amateur golfers to play for the Claret Jug.
