RUMOUR: Nike set for $2 billion takeover of Brooks Koepka's Smash GC
A Twitter account that covers LIV Golf claims that Nike could be interested in owning Brooks Koepka's LIV Golf team.
A Twitter account that regularly covers LIV Golf has claimed popular sports brand Nike is interested in splashing the cash on Brooks Koepka's Smash GC in a tweet.
Koepka, 33, won his fifth major title last week at the PGA Championship in New York.
He defeated the PGA Tour's Viktor Hovland and Scottie Scheffler by two strokes to become the first player to win a major as a LIV Golf member.
NEW: Brooks Koepka said to be "actively recruiting" PGA Tour star and major champion to join Smash GC
Nike Golf currently sponsors a number of the world's best golfers.
Koepka is their standout LIV Golf athlete right now, while long-term athletes Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods continue to wear the swoosh alongside the likes of World No.1 Scheffler and Tony Finau on the PGA Tour.
It is unknown as to how long Koepka has left on his Nike Golf contract.
Over on LIV Golf, Koepka captains the Smash GC team.
The other members are his brother, Chase Koepka, as well as Jason Kokrak and Matthew Wolff.
They're currently ranked seventh out of the 12 LIV Golf teams through six events in the league's 14-tournament season.
However, Koepka has been a star of the series, becoming its first two-time winner when he clinched his second in Orlando ahead of The Masters.
According to the Twitter account LIV Golf Enthusiast (which does not appear to have any affiliation with LIV Golf), Nike is now interested in Koepka's team, as well.
The account wrote on Thursday:
It's happening. Despite the sneers, jeers & feeble attemps to own me in the quote tweets Nike is in negotiations with Smash GC & yes we're talking the 2 Billion dollar range. The potential rebrand would be Team Swoosh or Swoosh GC. Team Nike was ruled out as being too bland.… https://t.co/PKVHiHc4dS pic.twitter.com/pAUD84nzcv

Nearly a year ago there were rumours that adidas Golf were interested in purchasing a LIV Golf team.
But that rumour appears to have faded out this season, especially after adidas called time on their long-term deals with both LIV Golf pros Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia.
Koepka, Smash GC, and the rest of LIV Golf are all in Washington, D.C., this week for the seventh tournament of the 2023 season.
Brooks was seen calling up for a new driver during his first round after he noticed a crack on the face.
