LIV Golf makes dramatic U-TURN before end of season
LIV Golf has changed its stance on where to host its season finale.
LIV Golf has decided to change where to host its season finale by switching from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia back to Miami in the United States.
The latest update, which was confirmed in a press release sent to GolfMagic on Monday afternoon, will see the season-ending 2023 LIV Golf League Team Championship take place at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami from October 20-22.
Initially LIV Golf had planned for Jeddah to host the season finale, but now the Saudi-backed circuit has decided to go back as planned to Miami, which hosted the closing tournament in 2022.
The news comes just a month after the PGA Tour and DP World Tour announced its shock merger with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), which bankrolls the LIV Golf League.
The iconic Blue Monster course at Doral will stage a seeded three-day tournament featuring both matchplay and strokeplay formats to decide the 2023 LIV Golf League team champions.
As it stands, Dustin Johnson's 4 Aces GC are out in front following their latest victory at Centurion Club.
The 4 Aces of course ran out winners in 2022.
On reverting back to Doral for the season finale, LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman said:
LIV Golf Jeddah, previously scheduled for November 3-5, will take place October 13-15 at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club as the 13th and final tournament of the regular season.
Remaining 2023 LIV Golf League Schedule
- Greenbrier, August 4-6
- Bedminster, August 11-13
- Chicago, September 22-24
- Jeddah, October 13-15
- Miami, October 20-22
At the conclusion of the regular season, the player at the top of the individual standings is named the individual champion and the top three players receive bonuses.
As it stands, Talor Gooch is out in front, with London champion Cam Smith in second and five-time major champion Brooks Koepka in third.
Final team standings following LIV Golf Jeddah will determine seeds 1-12 for the Team Championship, with the top four teams receiving first-round byes. Additional details on the Team Championship format and music entertainment will be released in the near future.
