The first stop of the FedEx Cup Playoffs begins this week, as the PGA Tour heads to Liberty National in New Jersey for The Northern Trust. Liberty National hosted the event, formerly known as The Barclays, back in 2009 and 2013, but most recently was the venue for the 2017 Presidents Cup.

Tiger Woods returns to action this week, after taking a break from golf following his missed cut at the Open, due to feeling aches and pain in his neck and back.

The 15-time major champion nearly stole the FedEx Cup from Justin Rose in the final event of the season last year, by winning the Tour Championship and causing some of the most memorable spectator scenes golf has ever seen.

Woods has suffered with his back for a very long time and has undergone four major surgeries throughout his career and many thought he'd never be the same again, until he won the Masters back in April.

The win at Augusta aside, Woods clearly still struggles with the pains as he has missed a lot of tournaments this year in order to give himself enough recovery time in between the big events.

In 2009, Woods played Liberty National for the first time and finished T2, alongside Ernie Els, Padraig Harrington and Steve Stricker, with all four players finishing just a shot behind Heath Slocum who won the tournament.

Four years later in 2013, Woods returned to Liberty National where his back had been causing him a lot of pain, but he was still putting in an excellent performance. During Sunday's final round, Woods was clearly struggling with the pain and then on the par-5 15th hole, a muscle spasm sent Woods to the floor.

Woods was hitting his second shot on the par 5 and going for the green in two, using a 5 wood and playing for a high cut, a shot he had been utilising all week.

After pulling the shot way left, around 40 yards off line, a muscle spasm caused Woods so much agony that he dropped to his knees. Woods managed to recover and finish his round, but due to the dropped shot on 15 he finished T2 once again, with Adam Scott taking home the trophy.
