Alfred Dunhill Championship: GolfMagic Betting Tips

With no PGA Tour event on the schedule this week, all eyes turn to South Africa for the 21st playing of the Alfred Dunhill Championship at the famous Leopard Creek CC.

GolfMagic's Andy, Jack and Alex have taken a look at the betting market for this week's European Tour event, and they have each revealed their best bets for the title. Take a look at their picks below:

ANDY - CONTENT MANAGER

PICK 1: BRANDON STONE (12/1) - The pre-tournament favourite bounced back to form last week with a solid tie for fourth and he won this tournament back in 2016 with a runaway six-stroke victory. He hasn't won since the 2018 Scottish Open but he typically plays well on home soil, and a bold bid for a second Alfred Dunhill title looks assured. It's a short price to take before the gun goes on Thursday, but he is the form and course horse in the lineup here.

PICK 2: LAURIE CANTER (33/1) - The Englishman's game is trending nicely with three top-five finishes in his last seven European Tour starts, including two runner-up spots in Portugal and Italy. He is yet to win on the main circuit but a first win looks like it's only around the corner. He is typically a good driver of the ball, which should work nicely at Leopard Creek where finding fairways is a premium. I am very confident he is going to gallop home for a victory soon, and when he does, it could very much be at a Canter.

PICK 3: WILL BESSELING (55/1) - Probably not the name that will leap off the page for many but Besseling has been going under the radar on the European Tour with a hat-trick of third-place finishes on the European Tour this season, of which one of those was in this tournament last December. The Dutchman also leads the European Tour in Strokes-Gained Driving this season, which will stand him in good stead this week. He missed the cut last week but has four top-20 finishes in his last seven starts. A great each-way shout.

JACK - ASSISTANT CONTENT MANAGER

PICK 1: BRANDON STONE (12/1) - As Andy says, he is the form horse and clearly loves it here following his runaway romp in 2016. The game looks in good shape with four top-20 finishes in his last four starts on Tour. The man they all have to beat.

PICK 2: JOHANNES VEERMAN (35/1) - The American has been playing some superb golf of late with three top-10s in his last seven starts. He is still very much learning his trade on the European Tour, but already appears to be making himself at home. He also came tied seventh here last year, so clearly admires the course. I think he will be right up there on the weekend, and at tasty odds too.

PICK 3: ZANDER LOMBARD (50/1) - You never quite know what to expect with Lombard, but he typically plays his best golf on home soil, a bit like Stone. He has not done anything particularly special of late but he did return to some sort of form last week with a tie for 15th. Like Veerman, he also finished tied seventh here last year so he has good vibes heading here. A solid each-way shout.

ALEX - EQUIPMENT MANAGER

PICK 1: JB HANSEN (33/1) - The Dane arrives here off the back of landing his maiden European Tour title just last week at the Joburg Open. I'm actually very surprised to see odds of 33/1 given how well he played last week. It will of course take a monumental effort to win consecutive events, as it's not something that happens too often on the circuit, but his game has been trending nicely for a while especially after a tie for seventh at the BMW PGA at Wentworth back in October. I want to see his wife banging on the table again!

PICK 2: ADRIAN OTAEGUI (35/1) - Otaegui seems to be a player that offers either all or nothing. When he is on he looks unstoppable, and when he's off, you sort of want to leave him alone. I fancy the former though this week, especially after having won on the European Tour three starts ago at the Scottish Championship. He finished tied 33rd here last time around so that was not too disastrous. Leopard Creek is a course that should fit his game nicely. He's not the longest player out there, but he keeps it in play more often than not. I fancy him for a second win in four starts this week.

PICK 3: STEVE SURRY (350/1) - The Englishman landed some big each-way money last week with an impressive tie for fourth at the Joburg Open, and at odds of 350/1 this week, I am more than happy to take a chance on him again! The game is clearly sharp after weekend rounds of 66 and 67, so the price looks huge. He typically plays his golf in South Africa so knows what it takes to play well in the country.
