Zebra's new line of Milled Series putters has already impressed us this year, and the wide blade 003 model has been one of the biggest surprise packages of the year.
The 001 offers a slightly larger profile sat behind the ball, and is also available in either face balanced or toe hang models.
I opted for the face balanced version, and took it down to Golf Groove in Wimbledon to put it through its paces on a Zen putting green.
Let's get into it.
Player Level
The 001 is a mallet design that offers plenty of forgiveness and stability. For that reason, it could be used effectively by golfers of any standard.
Zebra Milled Series 001 Putter Looks and Feel
Arguably the most confidence inspiring putter in the Milled Series range, the 001 has a generous profile sat behind the ball, which is elevated by the distinct alignment lines that run down the middle of the head.
The matte black finish looks superb, and will sit particularly well with golfers who don't like to see any glare from their putter head.
The large mallet profile, while big, isn't overbearing and could certainly still suit the eye of any golfer who want's a high MOI head, but not quite as large as something like a TaylorMade Spider Tour.
Flip the club over, and much like the 003, the 001 has a refined design, with minimalist detailing and adjustable weights which feature a subtle Zebra print patter, which is a lovely touch.
In terms of feel, this putter is very soft off the face. The fine milling creates a lovely sensation at impact and also produces a nice muted noise.
There is additional feedback from the toe or heel, but that's to be expected from almost any putter on the market.
Zebra Milled Series 001 Putter Performance and Forgiveness
Much like the 003, this putter produces a lovely clean roll on the ball, that's very repeatable.
Thanks to the large head, the putter remains very stable throughout the stroke, and I found both distance and direction very easy to control.
The high MOI design delivers plenty of forgiveness, and even when I intentionally hit putts out of the toe or heel, there was no significant loss in line or length, which will come in clutch for those golfers who are less than confident on the green.
If you're a golfer who wants a dependable putter that delivers consistency from across the face, and stability throughout the stroke, the 001 is one of the best I've tested.
Should you buy the Zebra Milled Series 001 Putter
The short answer to this question is yes. Not only does this putter deliver in every performance and aesthetic category, but it's also available at a very reasonable price.
Fully milled putters aren't cheap, but the 001 offers tremendous value at £249. Although Zebra might not be the first name that springs to mind when purchasing a new putter, I would highly recommend testing one out so you can appreciate first hand just how good they are.
