The newest addition to RAM's putter lineup, the FX milled putter range, features five distinct models that have been precision CNC milled to deliver a smooth roll and premium feel and looks.

In this review, we will be looking at the FX-05, a high MOI, face balanced design, constructed to provide bags of forgiveness and a smooth and stable stroke.

To see if the FX-05 could make it into our best putters of 2024 list, we took it our for a spin at Huntercombe Golf Club, before putting it under the microscope on the putting green, to better understand the performance it can deliver.

Let's get into it.

Player Level

The FX-05 is one of the most forgiving models in the FX range, making it an ideal choice for beginner golfers who may struggle to strike their putts consistently from the middle.

Thanks to the very modest price point, the FX-05 is an ideal choice for any golfer who has just started their golfing journey.

RAM FX-05 Looks and Feel

Coming in at a very modest £79.99, our expectations for the FX-05 were set relatively low, however as soon as we removed the premium leather headcover that comes with the putter, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the finish.

Featuring a matte black coating, the FX-05 is a lovely looking putter, that has all of the premium details and finish we have come to expect from putters that cost twice as much.

The fine CNC milling on the face is tight and smooth, while the RAM branding stamped on the face and sole look both premium and discreet.

The FX-05 has a rather large footprint that will undoubtedly appeal to those lacking a little confidence in their putting stroke, however the blade length is rather compact, allowing you to easily square the ball up at address with the high contrast alignment line that runs down the body of the putter.

The winged design has become ever more popular in recent years, and RAM has done an excellent job of sticking with a proven formula, while putting its own stamp on it.

Unlike many mallet putters on the market today, the FX-05 has a primarily hollow body, with the face and wings connected by a single bar that runs through the middle and two fangs that make up the perimeter of the head.

The overall design looks fantastic behind the ball and inspires plenty of confidence when you step up to putts of any length.

The feel off the face is quite springy, and due to fine nature of the milling, there is little dampening when it comes to sound.

When we hit our first putt, we were surprised by the high pitched metallic pinging noise off the face, and those who prefer a more muted sound like Odyssey's White Hot insert, may find it a little off putting.

RAM FX-05 Performance and Forgiveness

In a world of £400 putters, it's honestly refreshing to use a putter under the £100 mark that performs as well as the FX-05.

Stable, well balanced and receptive, this putter performs well above its pay grade.

From the first putt we hit with the FX-05 we were instantly impressed, and that experience remained consistent throughout testing.

The CNC milling on the face does an excellent job of maintaining a smooth roll on the ball, and we experienced no jumpiness or skidding, which can sometimes occur when using a budget putter.

It can sometimes take time to get to grips with a putter in order to find the right weight to hit your putts, however the FX-05 was a plug and play success and on the first green we had absolutely no issues finding our range.

The smaller blade length does mean this putter is slightly less forgiving than some larger models such as the Odyssey Ai One 7, however there is still plenty of help provided by the high MOI head design.

All in all, RAM deserve credit for making a putter that not only looks and feels great, but can also deliver performance for £80.

The price of a golf club seems to be exponentially rising year on year, so we tip our hat to RAM for delivering quality for a market that can't afford to spend a months wages on a golf club.

Should you buy a RAM FX-05 putter?

If you're shopping on a budget and want a putter that looks and feels premium, while delivering forgiveness and a smooth roll, then you won't find a better putter than the FX-05 for under £100.

While this is an excellent entry level putter, we would highly advise anyone who wants to save some cash to try out the FX-05 for themselves.

Acoustically there is still some way to go for RAM, but that's the only negative we could draw from this hugely impressive offering.
