Rory McIlroy has revealed his favourite ever golf club is the TaylorMade M2 Driver.

McIlroy, 35, disclosed such information when pressed for comment at this week's Genesis Invitational at famed Torrey Pines.

The M2 Driver, which McIlroy once used regularly on the PGA Tour, was known for its exceptional distance and forgiveness, making it a game-changer for many players.

You only have to look at the way McIlroy talks about his former TaylorMade driver below to see just how much it still means to him today.

McIlroy used the M2 Driver to secure several important wins on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour including the Deutsche Bank Championship, Tour Championship and Irish Open in 2016.

The Northern Irishman did admit though while he loves to stop and stare at his old M2 Driver in the garage that it's now probably illegal to use in competition in 2025.

McIlroy currently uses the TaylorMade Qi10 Driver on the PGA Tour.

He has been testing the brand new TaylorMade Qi35 Driver but he has yet to put it in his bag.

No doubt he will make a change soon.

McIlroy's nostalgia for the M2 Driver highlights the evolution of golf technology where clubs are frequently updated to meet new regulations and performance standards.

His mention of it now probably being "illegal" suggests the M2 Driver no longer meets the specs set by golf's governing bodies.

The TaylorMade M2 Driver was first released in 2016 and its design was widely praised for its blend of power, forgiveness, and playability, making it a favorite among both amateurs and professionals.

The club then had a revamp in 2017 with the driver's sunken sole shape enabling a larger clubface with added forgiveness.

"Probably the M2 Driver," replied McIlroy when asked to talk about his favourite golf club.

He added: "I still stare at it in my garage sometimes thinking wish I could still use you sometimes. It's probably illegal at this point."
